Teaching aim:

Grasp the present continuous tense .(affirmative sentences, general questions with simplified answers)

Teaching methods:

Task-based learning    Communicative approach

Teaching keys and difficulties:

Try to help the students to set up the general idea of the present continuous tense.

Teaching aids:

A tape recorder, computer, slide shows

Teaching procedures:

    I. Chant.

What’s he doing?    He’s walking.

What’s she doing?    She’s reading.

What’s he doing?     He’s running.

What’s she doing?    She’s swimming.

What’s Tom doing?    He’s sleeping.

What’s Jane doing?     She’s writing.

What’s Peter doing?     He’s drinking.

What’s Ann doing?      She’s drawing.

Listen to the chant for three times, ask the students to remember what are they doing?

T: What’s Jane doing?     She’s writing.

What’s Peter doing?     He’s drinking.

II. Talk about the pictures in the text book. Show the pictures one by one.

A.      Look at Picture One    What’s she doing?    She’s singing.

Look at Picture Two    What is she doing?    She’s looking for something.

(He’s making a plane.   He’s putting on his clothes.

She’s flying a kite.     He’s jumping.   She’s helping the woman

He’s sleeping.    She’s cooking.)

  B. Look at picture One

    Is she reading?   No, she isn’t.

    Is she singing?   Yes, she is.   (Is she reading?  No, she isn’t.

                               Is she looking for something?   Yes, she is.)

 III. Pair work, fill the chart.

They doing? Do you want to know?

Let’s listen to the tape.

VI. Report live

Well, Bill and Jim can’t play football with LI Lei. What a pity!

   When can they play football?   PE lesson. My students like sports very much.

   And they like PE lesson.  

Look, it’s PE lesson. They are having sports.

Well, can you be a reporter from TV station, and report PE lesson in Ningbo Xiaoshi Middle school, tell your viewers what are the students doing in PE lesson.
